Testing WiFi Signal Strength

To test the WiFi signal strength next to an Ally Monitoring Device, please install one of the following apps.

Please note the signal strength at the location of the device must be meet the: Ally Network Requirements. If the signal strength is weaker the device may not remain connected to the internet or persistently go offline.

Android Phones

Click this link and download onto your android phone: WiFi Analyser. Click the circle icon in the red box and you will see a list of WiFi networks. The signal strength is in the “rev counter” - in the image it is -65 dBm.

Please note:

  • You may see multiple networks with the same name this is because it wil be reading the signal emitted from each wifi access point.

  • Please pick the one with the strongest signal (closests to zero).

  • Please make sure to only check the reading of the network that the Ally devices are connected to.

Apple Phones

Click this link and download onto your iPhone: Airport Utility

Steps:

  • Select Wi-Fi Scan in the top corner.

  • From here you will see a list of WiFi networks that are being picked up. As shown on the top one on the 2nd row you will see -69dBm, this will fluctuate slightly but should give an indication of the signal
